Top Coastal Beach Wedding Venues in North Carolina

Maybe it’s the salt in the air, the way time slows down a little, or how everyone seems a bit more present, a bit more joyful. Coastal weddings have this natural ease to them, where the beauty of the surroundings does so much of the work, and the focus can stay where it matters most on your day.

As a North Carolina wedding photographer, the coast is one of my absolute favorite places to work. The natural beauty here does so much for your photos and atmosphere. The mix of ocean views and those iconic live oak trees draped in moss creates a landscape that feels romantic, layered, and incredibly photogenic. Those last-light portraits on the beach, the warm reflections on the water, the way the breeze moves through your veil during an outdoor ceremony are moments that live in my mind rent-free.

If you’re dreaming of a coastal North Carolina wedding and want to know where to even start with venue research, you’re in the right place. I’ve pulled together some of my favorite beach wedding venues in North Carolina along the coast.

My Top Coastal Beach Wedding Venues in North Carolina

The Dunes Club — Atlantic Beach, NC

The Dunes Club is a private club that sits right along the water in Atlantic Beach, offering sweeping views of the Atlantic and an elevated, classic club atmosphere that feels both polished and relaxed.

The Dunes Club can host everything from intimate gatherings to larger celebrations, with an executive culinary team providing menus tailored to your event. The ceremony lawn sits right at the edge of the dunes, with the pier visible in the background, making for one of my favorite ceremony setups I’ve ever photographed. With an oceanfront setting, you’re never far from a stunning backdrop for your photos.

The Dunes Club is a member-owned private club, so non-members will need a member sponsor to host an event there. It’s absolutely worth exploring if the venue speaks to you! For pricing and capacity, inquire with the venue.

Wrightsville Manor & Gardens — Wilmington, NC

Wrightsville Manor & Gardens is a consistent Wedding Wire Couples’ Choice Award winner and it’s not difficult to see why. It sits near the gateway to Wrightsville Beach in one of the city’s most charming historic areas.

It’s an elegant indoor/outdoor venue with tree-lined gardens, vintage architecture, and an indoor reception space with a beautiful fireplace.

Capacity: Up to 265 people

Investment: Pricing ranges from $3,000 (Monday–Thursday off-season) up to $9,950 (Saturday peak season).

Airlie Gardens — Wilmington, NC

Airlie Gardens is one of the most beautiful wedding and elopement locations in Wilmington, NC. The sprawling gardens, historic structures, and towering live oak trees create a setting that feels timeless and deeply romantic. It’s not directly on the beach, but it captures that coastal charm in such a unique way, especially with the Spanish moss and water views woven throughout the property.

There are several distinct ceremony and reception spaces to choose from:

  • The Oak Lawn, with a 500-year-old southern live oak draped in Spanish moss as your ceremony backdrop,
  • Bradley Creek Lawn, with its serene waterfront views perfect for tented receptions
  • The Pergola Garden, the most popular formal ceremony spot, with its natural floral aisle and fountain backdrop
  • The intimate Minnie Evans Bottle Chapel Lawn is for smaller gatherings up to 150 guests.

Elopement packages are available for groups of ten or fewer, which I love.

Capacity: Up to 300 people

Investment: Saturday rentals start at $1,000/hour with a three-hour minimum.

Live Oaks Estate — Wilmington, NC

Live Oaks Estate is everything I love about coastal North Carolina in one place. The sweeping live oaks, manicured gardens, and waterside views make this estate one of the most architecturally significant and photographically stunning venues in the Wilmington area.

The waterway views during golden hour are the kind of thing that takes your breath away, and as a documentary photographer, I love a setting that gives moments room to breathe and unfold naturally. For couples who want an elevated coastal estate feel with incredible photo potential, Live Oaks is worth exploring.

For custom pricing and capacity, inquire with the venue.

Merrell Estate & Gardens — Indian Beach, NC

When I first arrived at Merrell Estate & Gardens in Indian Beach, what struck me immediately was the grounds and greenery, and it genuinely feels like a destination the moment you arrive.

The palm tree-lined ceremony aisle is something I don’t think I’ve seen anywhere else in North Carolina. Walking toward an altar framed by palms with the estate in the background — it’s a totally unique look that feels a little tropical, a little coastal, and completely elegant. The property also features an elegant ballroom and a lofty covered portico that opens to the gardens, allowing guests to move naturally between inside and outside throughout the night.

Capacity: Up to 175-200 people in the ballroom, or 300+ in the outdoor lawn.

Honorable Mentions Worth Exploring

There are so many beautiful wedding venues along the NC coast, and these are a few more worth exploring:

Amelia Grove — New Bern, NC

Amelia Grove is a manor-style wedding venue sitting on the Trent River in New Bern, built in 1906 on 15 acres of historically rich grounds. Outdoor ceremony spaces sit along the riverbank and under live oaks strung with Edison lights, and there’s a rustic-elegant barn for receptions. It’s a beautiful Eastern NC option for couples who love history and garden settings.

Berkley Manor — Ocracoke, NC

Berkley Manor is one of the most beloved venues in Ocracoke. Since its opening in 2012, it has become a favorite for destination weddings in the area.

Berkley Manor holds such a special place in my heart, I’ve written a full guide to this venue that you can read here

Sycamore Bend Estate — Wilmington, NC

Sycamore Bend Estate is a Southern-style beach wedding venue in coastal Wilmington with wedding and event spaces, on-site lodging, and a beautiful wooded estate feel. A great option if you want your guests to stay on-property and really soak in the weekend together.

Bald Head Island Club — Bald Head Island, NC

Bald Head Island Club is as close to a true destination wedding as you can get in NC without leaving the state. Accessible only by ferry, Bald Head Island is car-free, wild, and very romantic. The Club’s 3,000-square-foot Ocean Room and outdoor spaces offer sweeping coastal views, and the island itself, with its maritime forest, old lighthouse, and pristine beaches, is a playground for portraits. It’s truly one of a kind!

Private Beach Houses & Residences

Some of the most beautiful coastal weddings I’ve seen have taken place at beach houses or family homes. There’s an intimacy to that kind of celebration that’s really hard to replicate at a traditional venue. If you’re considering an elopement or an intimate gathering, this is always worth exploring.
